New Variation of Taiyaki; the Croissant Taiyaki!

For those who do not know... Taiyaki (鯛焼き) is a popular Japanese dessert made using regular pancake or waffle batter. The batter is poured into a sea bream fish-shaped mould for each side. The filling is then put on one side and the mold is closed. It is then cooked on both sides until golden brown.

Most common fillings are anko (sweet azuki red beans paste), chocolate and custard.

Now we have a new variation of the traditional taiyaki called croissant taiyaki.

Croissant taiyaki is an hybrid of taiyaki and croissant. So basically what you get is a taiyaki in essence but made with a different dough.

Because of this special dough and also because they coat it with a bit of caramel, the croissant taiyaki is more crunchy than the original one.

The shape is also slightly different. The taiyaki does not have borders but the croissant taiyaki is presented with borders, like a square. Still you can perfectly distinguish the shape of the sea bream fish though.

Probably because of the innovation, croissant taiyaki is more pricey than a normal taiyaki but we definitely recommend to give it a try!
