Orbis has many unique features in its business that are quite different from any rival company in Japan. They did not own any real stores and were a pioneer mail-order cosmetic producer from 1987; at this time, this type of business was uncommon in Japan. What’s more peculiar about this brand is that they have supported the concept of “Oil Cut”. Although both water and oil content are essential for keeping the skin moist and most cosmetic manufacturers agree with this idea, they have eliminated the use of oils because they argue that human skin already has the function of generating oil content to prevent dryness. Instead of adding the oil, they created a technology that covers user’s skin with an extra-moist water veil, thus preventing it from drying out. Their ways of developing cosmetics are a clear departure from ordinary makers.
