Ajinomoto, a leader in the Japanese food industry, strives to promote people’s well-being through nutritious and delicious products. This brand highlights the power of umami, and this idea is based on an invention of Dr. Kikunae Ikeda, the person who discovered the umami taste.

When Ikeda visited Germany in 1899 and noticed the good physiques and overall health of Germans, he tried to create a dietary product that could improve the nutrition of the Japanese people. As a result, AJI-NO-MOTO, the world’s first umami seasoning was developed in 1909. Made with an amino acid called glutamic acid, scientifically proven to have nutritional benefits, AJI-NO-MOTO was a solution for Japanese people’s malnutrition problem.

Since this story, Ajinomoto’s focus has remained unchanged: to contribute to people’s well-being through diet. They believe the power of amino acids can resolve global food-related challenges including undernutrition and overnutrition. To do so, they produce grocery products that contains umami and balanced nutrition with less fat and salt content. Ajinomoto will continue to create tasty and reasonable seasonings that add a touch of umami to delicacies.
